The district of Lachaqui is located in the south of the province of Canta, 122 km from Lima. History
The town of Lachaqui was founded in 1735 with the group of small ayllus from Cullpe, Aymara, Huaychacoya, as a result of the reductions made by Viceroy Francisco Toledo, calling it La Villa de San Francisco; this name is given to it because most of the inhabitants walked barefoot in the community. The meaning of the name Lachaqui is "barefoot".
The district was created by Law of January 16, 1962, in the second government of President Manuel Prado Ugarteche.
Lachaqui is generally known as "LACHAQUI MY HEART", because the illustrious son of Lachaqui, Don Juan Flores Fuertes, interpreted and composed the Lachaquino hymn named as such.
