We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 6:45 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. and travel for one hour by transport to Chinchero, a small village with beautiful views of the Sacred Valley. In this charming village, you will see adobe homes, narrow cobbled streets, and people in traditional Peruvian dress. Here, the villagers still practice many Incan traditions and crafts. If you wish, you will see a demonstration of how wool is washed and dyed using native plants and minerals.
We will then continue our journey to Moray in order to see the fascinating site used by the Incas for agricultural experiments and cultivating seeds. There, you will learn how they cleverly designed a drainage system at the bottom of the terraces in order to avoid flooding during the rainy season.
After the tour of Moray, you will take a 20 minute bus ride to the salt mines of Maras. At this amazing site, you can see the pans fed by saline spring water that were built on steep terraces along one side of a narrow valley. The water is sent throughout the pans by a network of channels where the water slowly evaporates leaving the salt behind. Salt has been collected from Maras since Pre-Incan times and it is thought that a collective of salt ‘miners’ has maintained the terraces and channels for hundreds of years.
We will follow the beautiful route to Urubamba, the heart of the Sacred Valley, where we will stop for a buffet lunch.
After the lunch. We will continue our scenic journey to the amazing town of Ollantaytambo, is a classic Inca city which conserved the traditional Inca urban construction of narrow streets adjacent to flowing streams. As you walk through the stone streets, the gentle sound of flowing water will make it easy for you to imagine the city as it was in the time of the Incas. In the upper part of the town, there is an impressive ceremonial center that was used for water worship and also a mighty fortress that protected the access point to the lower part of the valley.
After the tour of Ollantaytambo, you will take a 1hour and 30 minute bus ride to Pisaq , you will be taken to explore the Pisaq Ruins before you return to Cusco at about 7:00 p.m.
The Sacred Valley is 2700 meters above sea level and stretches along the Vilcanota River.
The valley is characterized by having very special conditions, such as an excellent climate, very fertile lands and the waters of the sacred river of the Incas, the Vilcanota or Urubamba.
The best months to visit the Sacred Valley are from May to October, months in which the temperature varies from 16 degrees to 20 degrees Celsius, in the warmer months. During the day, the solar brightness is full, the weather is warm and very cool, although at night it feels cold, which is stronger during the month of June, which is no obstacle to enjoy the place.
In the months of May to October, you can go hiking, canoeing in the Urubamba River, ride on an ATV Tour in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, horseback riding, walking on dry trails and have a permanent company of the Urubamba snowcapped, which are presented in this time in its maximum brightness and splendor.
In Cusco and the Sacred Valley, the rainy season begins in November and gradually intensifies, with January, February and March being the most intense months, when it rains from 400 to 500 mm.
However, the rainy season is very peculiar and beautiful, because the fields show their best face and splendor. The whole landscape becomes intensely green, the farms or fields are covered with multicolored flowers, the air is purified by the rains, and you can enjoy the products of the time.
The Sacred Valley is composed of different districts, which differ in distance to Cusco:
We recommend you visit the Sacred Valley first, because it offers a more authentic view of the ancient Inca civilization and what they were able to build in places like Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Moray. Its 2,800 meters allow a gradual acclimatization, and omit the headaches that come with the altitude in the city of Cusco; but we can teach you how to avoid altitude sickness during the rest of your trip.
On the other hand, new hotels, a craft brewery and good restaurants, with some of the best chefs in the world, are placing the valley among the best destinations in South America.
The valley area between Pisac and Ollantaytambo is known as the Sacred Valley of the Incas. n this tour we will go through the mountains until we reach the “Sacred Valley of the Incas” – which had a great importance in the Inca culture. The Valley has a more temperate climate than Cusco and we will see a series of picturesque villages, agricultural terraces and many archaeological sites. This tour is the “Traditional” or Classic tour, designed to see the entire Sacred Valley in a single day full of action! If you have more time, we recommend spending the night in the Sacred Valley (we recommend either Ollantaytambo or Urubamba) and so you can assimilate a bit of the relaxed atmosphere. Sacred Valley Tour
On this tour we will enter the Sacred Valley to visit two curious places dating from the Inca civilization. The salt pans of Maras and the circular platforms of Moray. But this time we will add a bit of adrenaline to the classic tour of Maras – Moray, with a bike ride through all these attractions.
