The department of San Martín is located in the north of Peru; predominantly occupying territory in the country's High Forest. It is made up of ten provinces, which are: Moyobamba, Rioja, Lamas, San Martín, Mariscal Cáceres, El Dorado, Picota, Bellavista, Huallaga and Tocache.
The heart of the Peruvian Amazon beats every time adventurers visit San Martín. This northern region of Peru preserves nature in its purest state: you can walk along the trails surrounded by vegetation and fauna and, suddenly, begin to hear a deafening but calming sound of water falling very strongly and, in turn, , very revitalizing.
This region contains unique natural jewels in Peru, so if you like adventure, a warm and temperate climate –depending on the area– and being surrounded by beautiful landscapes with abundant vegetation, San Martín is the right place for you to plan your next vacations. It's like this: from the imposing Ahuashiyacu waterfall, passing through the Blue Lagoon or choosing Lago Lindo as your next destination, you will never regret visiting this beautiful land.
But San Martín is not only synonymous with nature. In this region, there is also space to carry out various activities, both historical and cultural. To start this adventure, the first thing you must do is reach the city of Tarapoto (founded in 1782 with the name of Santa Cruz de los Motilones de Tarapoto), capital of the province of San Martín and, in turn, the district of major importance. The reason? Everything goes through Tarapoto.
