The Admiral's House, named after the Spanish admiral Francisco Alderete Maldonado, who ordered it to be built at the beginning of the 17th century, is one of the most admirable colonial buildings in the city of Cusco. It has an original Inca wall on the outside and the Renaissance doorway, located on the corner, is among the best in the city. The entrance is flanked by plateresque rosettes and fluted Corinthian columns. Above the door, two stone shields contain the noble coats of arms of the Alderete and Maldonado families.
Over the last few centuries, this colonial house was occupied by various entities and personalities; It was the seat of the Archbishopric, then the ephemeral palace of the last viceroy of Peru and, later, the Government House of Marshal Santa Cruz who led the Peruvian-Bolivian Confederation. In the 20th century it was acquired by the National University of San Antonio Abad and, finally, destined to be the headquarters of the Inca Museum.
