The next day, transfer to the bus station, which is located 2 minutes from your hotel. There, you will take a tourist bus (Consettur) that ascends to the archaeological complex of Machu Picchu, following a zigzag path for about 30 minutes. Upon reaching Machu Picchu, it is very important to present your original document at the checkpoint, where the ranger will compare your document information with your Machu Picchu entry ticket. Once your information is confirmed, you will enter Machu Picchu with your guide. The Tierras Vivas guide will take you to the starting point of your designated circuit.

During the guided tour of Machu Picchu, we recommend taking the best photos from the initial point, as you will not be able to return to this point; the ticket is valid for one way only. Our guide will introduce the history and culture of the Inca citadel. The duration of the guided tour depends on your Machu Picchu circuit. If your ticket is for 2 hours and 30 minutes, our guide will make the most of this time to guide you and explore the Inca citadel.

Once you finish the guided tour in Machu Picchu, you will take a shuttle bus down to Aguas Calientes, where you can have lunch (not included in the package). This small town has many lovely restaurants offering traditional Andean as well as international cuisine. In the afternoon, we will take a train back to Ollantaytambo, where our driver will be waiting for us in front of the railway station to transfer us back to Cusco.

Our driver will drop you off at your hotel in Cusco or Airbnb.

Departure Train:
Usually, the train departs in the morning from Ollantaytambo. There are two train companies to Machu Picchu, each offering different services. For this Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu trip, the included train services are EXPEDITION (Perurail) or VOYAGER (IncaRail). These companies have different scheduled departure times from Ollantaytambo. Once you confirm your trip with us, our sales department will book your train according to availability.

Return Train:

The return train to Cusco is the most challenging to secure during the high tourist season, so we recommend booking this service in advance.

Usually, the return train from Machu Picchu to Ollantaytambo is at 02:30 PM, arriving in Cusco at 06:40 PM. However, if it is sold out, the next available train departs at 07:00 PM, arriving in Cusco at 10:30 PM. Our staff will provide you with the best round-trip train option.

Tierras Vivas works with both train companies - Perurail and IncaRail.

Bus Ticket (Consettur)

This ticket to Machu Picchu is available at all times, with no limit on availability. However, buses depart every 10 minutes, and it is very important to be at the bus stop 10 minutes before departure to ensure you arrive at Machu Picchu early. During the high tourist season, buses may be in high demand, so you might have to wait in line for at least 30 minutes before boarding. The Tierras Vivas guide will provide information about the bus to Machu Picchu.

#Nota: During the Machu Picchu tour 2 day from Cusco, we request the hotels to get ready your rooms for time of your arrival, especially if you arrive prior to standard check-in time. Nevertheless, this is not always possible. In this case, you just store your luggage in that hotel storage room and you can explore around your new destination in between. We recommend the early booking of pre/post-tour accommodation. Single accommodation can be arranged for a supplement, subject to availability. Please request this at the time of booking.

If you want to upgrade your accommodation in Machu Picchu, we have two options:

First option: We can give you a discount of $25 per person (Double or Matrimonial), and you can book your hotel by yourself. You should give us this information before booking your hotel. If you don’t let us know, our sales department will consider it a "No Show," and we cannot give you the discount.

Once you book your hotel, send us the hotel's name and location. Our sales department will coordinate with your guide, Tierras Vivas representative, and hotel staff for your pick-up from the train station and your briefing with the guide.

Mandor water fall walking tour

Machu Picchu is a must for almost all Peru travelers. Some choose the famous Inca Trail tours or the lesser-known Salkantay trek to reach the Inca site.
