Day 01: Cusco to Machu Picchu
In the morning, our driver will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the train station in Ollantaytambo. There, you will catch the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes village. The travel duration is 1 hour and 45 minutes. During the trip to Machu Picchu, you will experience spectacular, changeable landscapes, passing through lush fields and colorful villages set in the Andes to the subtropical zone. You will appreciate the running Vilcanota River, green landscapes, mountains, Inca ruins, and part of the classic Inca Trail.
The highlights of the journey are the wonderful views of the mountains and the marvelous Urubamba River that runs through the Sacred Valley of the Incas. At the end, you will reach Aguas Calientes, a town just below Machu Picchu, where our Tierras Vivas representative will welcome you at the train station and transfer you to your designated hotel. On the first day, you have no scheduled activities, so you have free time. If you want to explore the small town, we recommend extra activities such as walking to the Mandor Waterfall or visiting the Mariposario Museum. In the evening, you can visit the thermal baths (hot springs).
