One way to learn more about our country and demonstrate its importance is through tourism. What better way to get to know it than by seeing what each district has to offer? Obviously, each one has a different history that showcases varied attractions. Many people choose to travel abroad to New York, Las Vegas, California, Cancun, Acapulco, etc. But none of them stop to think about what they have in their own lands. However, there are different ways to experience tourism without leaving the country, learning a lot and having fun, which is what Peruvians always seek: recreation.
Therefore, the best way to fully explore Peru is to start by exploring everything it has to offer, from the smallest to the largest. It is precisely one of these districts, Surquillo, that, although it doesn't have many attractions to show its residents, can show off the little it does have.
Tourist Attractions
To start by naming one of these tourist attractions, the New Gastronomy Boulevard recently opened and is already establishing itself as a tourist attraction in the area, located in the Surquillo district, around Market No. 1, to be more precise. Many national and international visitors can enjoy the best flavors of this magnificent place, which offers a variety of typical dishes from all regions of our beloved Peru.
Another place we can't miss is Reducto Park No. 5, located on Angamos Avenue, a highly recognized historical attraction. It was a Peruvian defense trench during the capture and sacking of Lima, defended by Colonel Narciso de la Colina, and it still displays the cannons used in the Battle of Miraflores.
We can also highlight San Felipe Park as an attraction within Surquillo. It has recreational centers for adults and children. It's a very convenient place to practice sports, relax, and play with the family. Although it was previously just a land invaded by merchants who caused disturbances and a bad image for the area, it is now a recreational and sports area for the whole family in general.
The Boulevard de la Juventud and Plaza Bolívar in Surquillo are a positive change and advancement for this district, which has demonstrated on several occasions that its progress is not only commercial but also quality-related. It has significantly improved Surquillo's profile, now as a more modern, upscale, and welcoming place. Residents have one more reason to get out of the house and visit these popular places.
We can also see the Huaca de la Merced as a tourist attraction, located precisely in the La Calera neighborhood. This huaca belonged to the Ishma ethnic group and has received a conservation assessment by the archaeologist of the Subdirectorate of Conservation and Management of Archaeological Heritage of the Archaeology Directorate, Marco Guillen Hugo.
Within this list of attractions, we certainly cannot miss Surquillo Market No. 1, which is quite popular with local residents due to its high customer service and its continuous sales of top-quality products.
To complete this tour of attractions, we can also mention the recently opened Open Plaza, which features a wide variety of shops, businesses, a movie theater, and places for family fun.
Many people believe that to have fun, they must travel outside of Lima or perhaps to other parts of the country. However, with this description of tourist attractions and historical sites, they will think twice before leaving their district, although there are many who prefer a long trip outside of Peru. Anyone who wants to continue contributing to the enrichment of tourist areas in their own district can participate.
