Chimbote is located on the shores of the Pacific Ocean in El Ferrol Bay, the center of the country's fishing and steel trade. Chimbote is steeped in history and culture and is also the most populated city in the department of Ancash.

Not to mention its impressive archaeological sites, tourist destinations like Isla Blanca, Plaza de Armas, and much more. Below, we explain how to get to this paradise, along with the best places to visit.

How to Get to Chimbote?

One of the best ways to get to Chimbote is by land. You can take interprovincial transportation.

This trip would take approximately 7 hours from Lima, covering a distance of 525 km.

What to Do in Chimbote?

Cerro de la Juventud

There are thousands of activities to do in this fabulous land. Here you can visit museums, libraries, taste exquisite dishes, enjoy plazas, and more.

Chimbote boasts the Cerro de la Juventud (Cerro de la Paz), a tourist and religious attraction. It is notable for a 25-meter-high cross, which is lit in November and December.

This place welcomes hundreds of worshippers and tourists from all regions each year. It also has a spectacular natural viewpoint from which you can observe the entire city.

Isla Blanca (White Island)

Chimbote has the third-largest port in Peru, serving agricultural products and fishmeal. It also has an interesting place you'll surely enjoy visiting: Isla Blanca (White Island).

This is a deserted and exotic island, home to many species, from sea lions to birds such as gulls, pelicans, and crustaceans.

The island gets its name from the white color of its surface, a product of the guano of the species that inhabit it. In this beautiful spot, you have the option to wander and explore for a few hours. Fantastic!

Forest Nursery

The forest nursery's country recreation center is an alternative for nature lovers. This special place boasts abundant vegetation, flora, and impressive gardens for strolling.

The forest nursery has waterfalls, a lagoon, and even an old locomotive. Incredible! You can enjoy the pool with your friends or family, take boat rides, or visit the grids. Do you know what they are?

They are water storage areas in the form of grids, located near the Chimbote steel mill. These were used by the Mochica culture 1,600 years ago and are now part of a super interesting archaeological site.

San Pedrito Pescador Museum

There is also the famous San Pedrito Pescador Museum. Have you heard of it? It's a fishing boat adapted by the Bishopric to serve as a museum and tourist attraction in Chimbote.

This museum ship, or "museo lancha," as it's known, has a 350-ton capacity and welcomes hundreds of Peruvians and tourists from around the world. It houses a permanent exhibition focused on fishing and boats dedicated to this activity.

Have you seen how fun it is to travel to Chimbote? Don't put off being part of this unique experience, because this area has it all. Truly incredible wildlife and hikes along super-exciting trails.
