San Martin de Porres is a center for basic special education established by RD No. 076 on May 6, 1998, issued at that time by the Anta Educational Services Department, and is a school for children with special educational needs in the province of Anta (an hour faraway from the Cusco City).
The facility consists of 2 classrooms, a depository, and an administrative office. Due to the adobe material from which it is built and the lack of rainwater run-off, the local terrain is very deteriorated. The educational center serves an average of 15 students at the initial and primary levels with mental, motoric, severe, and multiple disabilities from various surrounding Andean rural communities who are generally in very poor economic condition.
At present, the necessary measures are being taken to expand the infrastructure and services in order to use the kitchen, dining room, workshops, and build a perimeter fence, etc.
The following staff currently works in the center:
Director and Teacher: Prof. Miluska Alegria Sanchez
A contracted Teacher: Prof. Ana Maria Calizaya
Teacher Assistent: Lourdes Castillo
Tierras Vivas supports the school with donations from each tour package purchased.
