Try These 5 Exotic Liquors from the Peruvian Amazon

Part of the experience of visiting the Peruvian Amazon lies in tasting and discovering the charm of its exotic drinks. These liqueurs have the most fun and original names, and their secret lies in their medicinal and aphrodisiac properties. In most cases, their properties are obvious; in others, they are associated with a popular belief. The truth is that their uniqueness and pleasant flavor attract many tourists, who are amazed.

The production of these liqueurs is based on a maceration process that combines various plants, tree bark, herbs, exotic fruits, and a certain degree of alcohol. The possibilities for combining ingredients and creating new drinks are endless, so below we share some of the most requested so that you can order them on your next visit to eastern Peru. Rest assured, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Uvachado

This is one of the most popular liqueurs in the jungle, especially in the city of Tarapoto and throughout the San Martín region. It is made from the Amazonian Burgundy grape—very typical of this area—which is macerated for a couple of months with sugarcane liquor (also called cañazo) and sweetened with honey.

This drink is usually consumed during patron saint festivities as an accompaniment to meals. Due to its high alcohol content and aphrodisiac effects, it is recommended to drink in moderation.

7 Roots

This is another of the most popular and well-known liqueurs from the Amazon. It consists of a preparation based on seven different roots and bark, generally: chuchuhuasi, cat's claw, fierro caspi, murare, icoja, sangre de grado, and cumaceba. Like Uvachado, these ingredients are macerated with sugarcane liquor and sweetened with honey.

It is very popular for its medicinal properties, especially against the flu, and for its high aphrodisiac and energizing properties.

Chuchuhuasi

Made from the bark of the Amazonian tree of the same name, this liqueur is one of the strongest due to its high alcohol content, so it is always recommended to drink it in small quantities. Among its main properties is the stimulation of blood circulation, which favors the art of love.

It is also beneficial for rheumatic diseases such as arthritis, osteoarthritis, and osteoporosis, as well as for muscle pain, bronchitis, stomach pain, and fever.

Rompe Calzón

The fiery heat typical of the Amazon is enhanced by this 100% aphrodisiac liqueur, made from a combination of bark and medicinal plants such as chuchuhuasi, cat's claw, fierro caspi, cumaceba, clavo huasca, abuta, sanango, among others, combined with sugarcane liquor. The mixture is left to macerate for a week, and the result is a powerful elixir of love.

Many people consume it to increase libido and enhance sexual performance, although it is also widely used for medicinal purposes.

Let Lazarus Rise

This potent drink of biblical origin is famous for igniting male libido and maintaining it throughout the entire night of lovemaking. It consists of a preparation based on the bark of sanango, chuchuhuasha, fierro caspi, chicosa, and achuni penis bone, all macerated in sugarcane liquor and honey. According to popular belief, a few sips of LL are enough for a night full of eroticism.
