Inca Trail Booking Policies

There are basically two types of companies selling an Inca trail package: registered tour operators and middlemen. There are a small number of tour operators and they run, sell, and operate their own Inca Trail tours. Tierras Vivas is one of them.

All operators ask for a deposit which is generally NON-REFUNDABLE! The reason is that the Ministery of Culture (Ministerio de Cultura) does not refund any money when a passenger cancels or changes a date. In this case, the operator in question must re-apply for a new permit. Payment terms vary from operator to operator.

There is no such thing as a Waiting List/Cancellation List. If a travel agent tells you they can do it, they are simply not telling the truth and acting illegally! The fact is that if a passenger cancels his/her space, no one else will get it!!! Please keep this rule in mind when booking your Inca Trail.

Force Majeure

This is an event that Tierras Vivas could not foresee, solve, or avoid since it is beyond our control. It includes phenomenons such as war, civil unrest, riot, strike, demonstration, terrorist attack, industrial dispute, disease, natural disaster or adverse weather conditions, fire, and similar. In this case, Tierras Vivas does not accept liability and reserves the right to change, postpone or even cancel the trip (this is the last option of course which we try to always avoid!).

Price increase in case of protests/strikes (FORCE MAJEURE):
In the event of a protest/strike, which is not uncommon in Cusco, it may be necessary to leave a day or even 2 days earlier than scheduled so that we are able to comply with other services. In this case, a price increase may be charged to cover unexpected costs if they occur.

Risks

Travel insurance: We strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance to cover accidents, medical expenses, and emergency repatriation, including rescue and air ambulance services. We also recommend covering flight change/cancellation and luggage loss. Please email us a copy/company name and insurance contract number or provide this information upon arrival at Cusco.

By booking any of our adventure activities (Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, Salkantay, Ausangate, Choqueqirao, Lares, Vilcabamba, Ausangate, Cachicata Trek, etc.) you take the risks associated with them. Tierras Vivas accepts no responsibility for these risks.
