When I visited Peru I didn’t imagine that I would experience something as great as the hike to Machu Picchu.
First I was a little bit disappointed that we couldn’t hike along the „real“ Inca Trail because it was so overcrowded with people. In the end I realised that was the best thing that could have happen to me!

It had been a dream of ours to take the traditional Inca Trail route to Machu Picchu and we were recommended Tierras Vivas from a friend of ours in England. He couldn't have recommended a better company to choose. Vladi our tour guide was professional, courteous, entertaining, encouraging and always there to explain any of the Inca ruins or aspects of the itinerary as he is an experienced archaeologist. The food was amazingly good, sometimes restaurant quality to our surprise. Pablo and his team of porters worked so hard to make our experience faultless and we always seemed to have the best position in the camps as our porters set off very early. We were pleased to see that we had lots of porters for just two of us and Tierras Vivas are a highly ethical company with a great family-run personalised approach. The scenery along the way was amazing, we saw beautiful snowcapped mountains, ruins perched on the side of the cliffs and of course the infamous stone trail which snaked its way up and down the Andean ranges, through tunnels and eventually to the awesome site of Machu Picchu. Climbing Waynapicchu was one of the most exhilirating travel experiences of our lives. We would highly recommend Tierras Vivas to anyone visiting Cusco, particularly as there seem to be so many cowboy companies around!
We chose to go on the Lares trail, since I wanted something a little less touristy than the Inca Trail. We walked into the nearest tour agency, Tierras Vivas, and were lucky enough to book a trip with them a few days later. The manager, Edwin, was very warm and thorough in his explanation of our trip and the costs. We came back in the next day and asked if we could leave sooner and he was very understanding and worked with us. Our trip was excellent!!! Our tour guide, Antonio, was a local and explained all the local cusoms and culture, and was very knowledgable about the ruins, foliage, and Incan history. We walked through villages and mountains and didn't see any other tourists the whole time. The food was delicious: lots of local authentic food, snacks, and we were woken up with tea every morning in our tent! We got to Machu Picchu and back to Cusco with no problems and Antonio was very understanding of the pace we wanted to go at. We recommended this company to everyone we met, especially people we talked to who had bad experiences with their companies. The price was also very reasonable, and we'd highly recommend going with Tierras Vivas for any tour or trek!

"Tierras Vivas provided an expedition which exceeded my greatest expectations. We took the a road less traveled which gave us access to to spectacular Inca ruins in way we could never have dreamed of - our group had the ruins all to themselves. We heard that the famed Inca trail supports a constant flow of sight-seers, but for five days we were the only foreigners to be found. The Tierras Vivas crew had such a rapport with the locals that we got an up close look at ancient customs and traditions and even got to stay in thatched cabins on several nights. With a landscape that ranged from rain forest, to mountain peaks and glaciers we had a complete snapshot of the best Peru has to offer. If you are looking for a unique and intimate experience of the Andes, separate from the hundreds of tourist that use the Inca Trail daily, Tierras Vivas' Pachamama Ńan expedition is the one for you”.

Our hike to Macchu Picchu with Tierras Viva was a breathtaking experience far beyond an ordinary tour. Hiking five days through undescovered valleys and highlands down into the colorful jungle area and being the only tourists on the way, we experienced the magical natural beauty of the Andes from a different perspective. Meeting Andean people, sharing stories and quechua songs and experiencing the rough living conditions ourselves we got a fairly good idea of what it means to live in the highlands - especially in the rain season ;). Vaaaamooos Tierras Vivas!

We did the Pachamama Ńan Tour – off the beaten track. The only people we met were local people who showed us their traditions and let us have a peak into their everyday life. The nature that we walked through was absolutly manifold and untouched. Even though it was freezing cold on the high mountains, it was amazing – walking through colorful rainforests and finally arriving on the Machu Picchu!
The crew of Tierras Vivas was always anxious that everything is okay and that we would enjoy our trip. But it was more than only a crew and tourists. They gave me the feeling that they really want to show me the heart of their beautiful country!

"Edwin and Tierras Vivas gave my friends and I a trip we will never forget. We trekked through the highlands of Peru, met locals, experienced some of their traditions. It was amazing. We were felt like participants not tourists. Edwin was an incredible guide and Carlos was our superhuman cook. Somehow, three days away from the nearest town and 4500 meters above sea level, we dined like kings. And then Carlos would pack up the whole thing and beat us to the next campsite and have hot tea ready for us when we arrived. That, set against a backdrop filled with fantastic ruins and mountain and jungle scenery, made for an incredible trip. I hope to come back to Peru someday, and if I do, I will certainly book another trip with Tierras Vivas!"
