"Tierras Vivas provided an expedition which exceeded my greatest expectations. We took the a road less traveled which gave us access to to spectacular Inca ruins in way we could never have dreamed of - our group had the ruins all to themselves. We heard that the famed Inca trail supports a constant flow of sight-seers, but for five ...

When I visited Peru I didn’t imagine that I would experience something as great as the hike to Machu Picchu. First I was a little bit disappointed that we couldn’t hike along the „real“ Inca Trail because it was so overcrowded with people. In the end I realised that was the best thing that could have happen to me! We did ...

Our hike to Macchu Picchu with Tierras Viva was a breathtaking experience far beyond an ordinary tour. Hiking five days through undescovered valleys and highlands down into the colorful jungle area and being the only tourists on the way, we experienced the magical natural beauty of the Andes from a different perspective. Meeting Andean people, sharing stories and quechua ...

THE LORD OF SIPAN

Sipan is a small town 29 km. from Chiclayo on the north coast of Peru. in 1987 Walter Alva, a peruvian archaeologist, made an important discovery in the Rajada Indian Tomb site. He found the remains of a man who turned out to be the most important ruler of the Mochica Culture: the lord of Sipan. the discovery was magnificent in such a way that it has been compared to that of Tutankhamon's tomb in Egypt. before Dr. Alva's discovery, the site had been ransacked by grave robbers known as "huaqueros" but fortunately, the Sipan burial site is made up of two big adobe pyramids that from far away look like mountain. inside these pyramids were more than six tombs; among them were the tombs of lord's mistresse, a warrior, a child and a guard right in the center of the site and inside a wooden coffin was the lord, surrounded by offerings and gold ornaments such as Orejeras  (type of earring) scepters, medallions and necklaces. the team of archaeologists also found hundreds of ceramic pots and a minor tomb which contained a second man. This man was called "The Old Lord of Sipan" it is believed that The Lord of Sipan was a Mochica divine leader that for several decades ruled three aspects of their lives: the military, the religious and the social. Make sure you don't miss this impressive discovery and visit two important museums: The Sipan Royal Tombs and the Bruning.
