Pachacamac was the main pre Columbian religious center of the Peruvian coast. It is located in the valley of Lurin river in an area where the green of the vegetation combines with the pale desert. This sanctuary was the home of Pachacamac, the most worshipped and feared god. Its religious influence first spread at the time of the Wari, the first expansionist culturre of Peru; throughout the Ishmay period this great ceremonial center as further developed. During the expansion on the Inca Empire, the city went through several changes. The Incas built the temple of the Sun, Acllahuasi. The Taurichumbi Palace, the pilgrims Plaza and Pachacamac lost its category of sacred city. However, according to some stuidies this center was considered the most important pilgrim center of the Incas since people from all over the Tahuantinsuyo arrived at the city to present their offerings to Pachacamac. "the creator universe"the lord of the Tremors, the one who controls time and destiny. Despite the so many changes, some parts of the city have survived the Incas and the Spanish. In fact the best preserved part happens to be the Inca part (1440-1533). We invite you to see Pachacamac's Palaces, temples and Plaza, as well as the Site Museum, which has as an interesting collection of pieces and protected areas such as the lagoon and the carob forest. We also recommend that you pay a visit to the surrounding areas such as the beautiful Lucumo Hills between the months of August and October, and of course have a succulent shrimp dish in the restaurants nearby.
