Introduccion

While it is our intention to adhere to the route described below, there is a certain amount of flexibility built into the itinerary and on occasion it may be necessary, or desirable to make alterations. The itinerary is brief, as we never know exactly where our journey will take us, (remember we are in south america). Due to our style of travel and the regions we visit traveling, with Tierras Vivas can be unpredictable. The dossier is a general guide to the tour and region and any mention of specific destinations or wildlife is by no means a guarantee that they will be visited or encountered.

Please contact us for more information if needed.

Day 1: Arrive in Buenos Aires

Transfer to your hotel in down town in Buenos Aires. Your included city tour will ensure that you don't miss any of the city's major attractions, and perhaps will improve your understanding of those you have already seen. The tour will be really interesting, with lots of opportunities to enjoy and observe the sights. Stops will be made at notable places such as Teatro Colon, Obelisco, Av. De Mayo. Congresso, Plaza de Mayo, La Boca, San Telmo and Puerto Madero. Then you will have a free afternoon to explore your favorite sights, and at night, keep enjoying the great cuisine, a tango show and the nighlife.

Day 2: Iguassu Falls

Transfer to the airport to take a flights to the city of Puerto Iguassu. Transfer to the htel.

This day features a half day excursion to the Brazilian waterfalls with Spanish/English speaking guide. Entrance fee to the national park is not included.

From the Brazilian National Park you have a panoramic view of the Falls – you can see the 3 kilometres of Falls in front of you, which features 270+ cascades. You have 1,000 metres of easy walking - it takes about 1 hour, finishing in the canyon of the Devil’s throat.

Day 3: Iguassu Falls

Today is a full day tour to the Argentinean side of the falls with Spanish/English speaking guide. Entrance fee to the national park is not included.

This tour includes three different paths:

UPPER WALK: A walk of 500 metres, lasts about 45 minutes seeing the Two Sisters, Bosseti, Adam and Eve, Bernabe Mendez, Mbigu· and San MartÌn falls from the upper part.

LOWER PATH: Walk around 1.300 metres of footpath which lasts 1.30 hours. You see the falls from the middle - you might get wet.

DEVIL’S THROAT: Hop aboard a little train, and go 4 km to Devils Throat Station, at the upper part of the Iguazu River. From here, you walk on a bridge (walkway) that leads to the balcony of Devil’s throat. The most spectacular view!!

Below is an optional extension you can add on this same day.

Great Adventure excursion (1 hour): Combines a jungle trip with a sailing to the Falls.

Start with a trip through the rainforest of the National Park in a 4 x 4 jeep. Then, take a zodiac boat upstream in the lower Iguazu River, reaching a panoramic view of the Falls – then finishing with a trip directly under the falls. Back to Iguazu and overnight at hotel.

Day 4: Ushuaia

We leave the jungle to the airport to take a flight to Buenos Aires city, with connection to Ushuaia.  Transfer to the hotel.

Sitting on the shores of the Beagle Channel, Ushuaia actually means 'the bay facing westward' in the language of the original Yamna inhabitants.

The town of 50,000 is also a major ski resort area for both alpine and cross-country skiers and offers magnificent hiking in Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego, the first coastal national park in Argentina.

Ushuaia is now a major tourist attraction, particularly for people cruising to Antarctica.

Day 5: Ushuaia

This morning we will visit the first coastal national park in Argentina.

We will appreciate the glacial period valleys at the train station to get into the park on board the famous Train of the End of the World. Then we will ride Ensenada Bay, Roca lake and would enjoy a hot chocolate on the shores of Lapataia River.

As the weather is very unpredictable in Ushuaia, for this tour take a rain jacket with you, (you never know what can happen)

On the way, you will spot lots of birds in those incredible forest with a breathtaking scenery surrounding the area. At the end of the tour, you will taste a real grilled lamp at one of the local restaurants in the middle of this southern forest, an unvelievable experience.

Day 6: El Calafate

We leave the southernmost city in the world to the airport to take a flight to our next destination, the city of the glaciers, El Calafate.

The southern continental ice field, the third largest on the planet is the source of all the area's glaciers, including Moreno, Onelli, Viedma and Upsala. Moreno Glacier moves down from this massive river of frozen water, huge solid piece of ice constantly crashing into the lake waters below. Very dynamic, Moreno is one of the very few advancing glaciers left in the world. It is the equivalent of the surface of the Capiatl city of Argentina, (Buenos Aires).

Day 7: El Calafate

Full day tour into Los Glaciares National Park, declared a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Try to spot condors, rheas, eagles or flamingos en route, but the real star of the day is the glacier itself. Sliding down from atop the southern continental ice field, Moreno's 70-m wall of ice sporadically chokes off the narrow Canal de los Tempanos, creating a natural ice dam, which eventually explodes in a dynamic display of force. Enjoy close-up views of the approaching front wall of the glacier during a one-hour boat cruise. Return to El Calafate for the night.

Day 8: El Calafate

Today Full day tour to the Ice Rivers tour, also called All Glaciers, where we will visit Upsala, Onelli and Spegazzini glaciers.

Navigation through the northern branch of Argentino Lake to the Upsala Glacier, the one with more ice surface 595km2. Its walls have between 60 and 80 mts high.

The catamaran also reaches the Onelli glacier that includes a walk at the Onelli bay with its typical patagonic woods up to the Onelli lake that is full of icebergs. Here we will have the only desembarcation of teh day, where passengers can have lunch at the restaurant or take with them a box lunch.

In this palce, we cross through the forrest approx 800 mts getting at Onelli lagoon, where where the glaciers Onelli, Bolado and Agassi get together, and with so many ice breakings the lagoon is full of small icebergs.

Back at the catamaran we sail up to the Spegazzini glacier, the highest galcier of the park (135mts high). From here we go back to Puerto Bandera where we take the bus back to El Calafate to get there aprox at 6pm.

Day 9: Buenos Aires

We say Goodbye to the beauty of patagonia to the airport to take a flight back to buenos Aires. Free day to explore the second most beautiful city in the world.

This city, the Paris of South America” is known for its chic shops, neat plazas, a passionate tango scene and for serving great and huge Argentinean steaks. There's something for everyone in this southern capital with a European feel.

A Couple of Rules:

Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on any trips. Possessing or using drugs not only contravenes the laws of the land but also puts you  at risk. Smoking marijuana and opium is a part of local culture in some parts of the world but is not acceptable for Tierras Vivas travellers. Our philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter, and in particular the local people who make the world the special place it is. The explotation of prostitutes is completely contrary to this philosophy. Our group leader/local operators has the right to expel any member of the group/tour if drugs are found in their possession or they use prostitutes.

Travel Insurance:

Travel insurance is compulsory in order to participate on any of our trips. When travelling on a trip with us, you will not be permitted to join the tour until evidence of travel insurance has been sighted by your leader or local operator, who will take note of your insurance details. When selecting a travel insurance policy we require that at a minimum you are covered for medical expenses including emergency repatriation. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. If you have credit card insurance we require proof of purchase of the trip (a receipt of credit card statement) with a credit card in your name. Contact your bank for details of their participating insurer, the level of coverage and emergency contact telephone number.

Tierras Vivas  is a Travel Assurance provider, and in case you are interested in get our proposal, please contact us to the following email: tailormade@tierrasvivas.com

Responsible Travel:

Tierras Vivas has been responsible to offering low-impact tours that benefit traveller and host alike. We work with local communities, businesses and individuals to develop sustainable tourism opportunities that help local economies while minimizing negative environmental and cultural impacts.

Keeping in Touch:

If you need to be contacted while travelling we recommend that you set up an email address that can be accessed on the road, rather than relying on postal mail. Ciber cafes are becoming increasingly commonplace and cheap throughout the regions we visit, and have quickly become the preferred way for our leaders and travellers to stay in touch. If someone wishes to contact you in an emergency while you are on one of our trips we recommend that they contact your local booking agent, or refer to our
Emergency Contact.
