Our hike to Macchu Picchu with Tierras Viva was a breathtaking experience far beyond an ordinary tour. First I was a little bit disappointed that we couldn’t hike along the „real“ Inca Trail because it was so overcrowded with people. In the end I realised that was the best thing that could have happen to me! We did ...

Introduction

While it is our intention to adhere to the route described below, there is a certain amount of flexibility built into the itinerary and on occasion it may be necessary, or desirable to make alterations. The itinerary is brief, as we never know exactly where our journey will take us, (remember we are in south america). Due to our style of travel and the regions we visit traveling, with Tierras Vivas can be unpredictable. The dossier is a general guide to the tour and region and any mention of specific destinations or wildlife is by no means a guarantee that they will be visited or encountered.
Please contact us for more information if needed.

Day 1: Puerto Nateles

Arrive Puerto Natales at any time, check in at our hotel, fre time to explore this picturesque town.

Day 2: Rio Serrano
A private transfer will pick you up from your hotel/hostal in Puerto Natales or directly from our operation base. We will begin at the Rio Serrano sector (located at the southern border of Torres del Paine National Park) where we will prepare & distribute the kayaks so that we can then begin with the safety & paddling instructions. Our guides will help to recommend the appropriate equipment you will need to take during the trip, so that the rest of your luggage will be taken by a private transfer directly to your hotel in Puerto Natales. This day we will paddle approximately 2 hrs across the 1st section of Rio Serrano, this is a calm zone that is good for us to see the level & comfort of the kayakers paddling. We then arrive to a small waterfall on the river where we will have our 1st teamwork experience in carrying the kayaks 100m approx. Depending on the weather conditions and the hours of light left, we will continue for 1 or 2 hrs more to arrive at the camp for the 1st night. Dinner.

Day 3: Tyndall River

We will begin with a good breakfast (fruit, cereal, wholemeal bread, milk, ground coffee and the speciality of the guide). We pack away the camp and paddle  Tyndall river, against the current for 3 hrs or more which will bring us to the mouth of the lake, from here we cross the glacial moraine mostly covered by turquoise water. For 1 hour more we paddle the surrounding pristine countryside of Patagonia. When we arrive to the bay we set up camp. After relaxing time and eating lunch, we return to the water to visit and appreciate the front of the glacier for 2 hrs approx.  Return to campsite .Dinner. Night 2.

Day 4: Puerto Toro

Breakfast early in the morning and after packing away the camp; we continue our journey paddling back towards Rio Serrano. Between the National Park lands and private owned lands we can see views of native forests and glacier-covered mountains of the Southern Patagonian ice field arriving at Puerto Toro in the Bernardo O ´Higgins National Park. Whilst the guide prepares the camp and dinner, you have the possibility to walk along the trail to visit the glacier lookout and its ice bergs. Dinner. Night 3.

Day 5: Puerto Natales

With an early start; depending on the weather conditions, we will carry the kayaks 100m to the lagoon of the Serrano glacier so that we can paddle in and amongst the ice- bergs to enjoy its intensity in colour and essence until 11:00am We will pack away the camp before boarding the boat, which departs at 13:00 (either the 21 de Mayo or DÁgostini boat). A Couple of Rules
Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on any trips. Possessing or using drugs not only contravenes the laws of the land but also puts you  at risk. Smoking marijuana and opium is a part of local culture in some parts of the world but is not acceptable for Tierras Vivas travelers. Our philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter, and in particular the local people who make the world the special place it is. The exploitation of prostitutes is completely contrary to this philosophy. Our group leader/local operator has the right to expel any member of the group/tour if drugs are found in their possession or they use prostitutes.

Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is compulsory in order to participate on any of our trips. When traveling on a trip with us, you will not be permitted to join the tour until evidence of travel insurance has been sighted by your leader or local operator, who will take note of your insurance details. When selecting a travel insurance policy we require that at a minimum you are covered for medical expenses including emergency repatriation. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. If you have credit card insurance we require proof of purchase of the trip (a receipt of credit card statement) with a credit card in your name. Contact your bank for details of their participating insurer, the level of coverage and emergency contact telephone number.

Responsible Travel
Tierras Vivas has been responsible to offering low-impact tours that benefit traveler and host alike. We work with local communities, businesses and individuals to develop sustainable tourism opportunities that help local economies while minimizing negative environmental and cultural impacts.

Keeping in Touch
If you need to be contacted while traveling we recommend that you set up an email address that can be accessed on the road, rather than relying on postal mail. Cyber cafes are becoming increasingly commonplace and cheap throughout the regions we visit, and have quickly become the preferred way for our leaders and travelers to stay in touch. If someone wishes to contact you in an emergency while you are on one of our trips we recommend that they contact your local booking agent, or refer to our Emergency Contact.
