"Edwin and Tierras Vivas gave my friends and I a trip we will never forget. We trekked through the highlands of Peru, met locals, experienced some of their traditions. It was amazing. In the Andean region lies the legendary citadel of Choquequirao, resisting the passage of centuries in the midst of the mountains' sharp boulders and wild vegetation, which still covers almost 80 percent of its surface. Its panoramic view is simply majestic. Imposing snow-peaked mountains and hills covered with the lushest vegetation are located at over 9000 feet, under and intensely blue sky eternally dotted with white clouds, in the realm of the condor and of history. Larger than Machu Picchu, the citadel of Choquequirao represents the latest archeological destination in southeastern Peru. Located 140 km from the Inca capital of Cusco, Choquequirao is a jewel lost in the midst of time, surrounded by imposing snow peaks and deep valleys.

The Sun, the main God of the Inca Civilization was considered to be the creator of all that exists. It presided over the destinies of man and the universe.
The most luxurious celebration to be performed in Cusco was thus dedicated to the king star of the Incas. The Sun was to be adored and offered sacrifices so as to avoid that during its lengthy journey through sky and space, it should leave the Earth and its children, and ensure its return offering heat and joy.
Several reasons compelled the Inca civilization to make sacrifices and offerings to their king star the sun. One of them was that the Inca, as well as Cusqueñan nobility, were considered to be natural children of the Sun. To him they owed their existence, for which recognition was due with sacrifices and offerings. On the other hand, if the corn harvest was good in the last agricultural year, it was necessary to be thankful, and if the harvest was poor, it was necessary to request that it be compensated with a better one the following year. Finally, in June (winter solstice) as the Sun moved away and temperatures dropped, at dawns water froze, therefore it was necessary to request that the Sun return, that after twilight it should not continue advancing towards the north.
Finally, it was necessary to attest to the Sun, the eternal and total gift of his children, with submission and respect.

For trekkers wanting to get off the well beaten tourist path and escape to a part of Peru that has changed little over the last 500 years then a trek through the spectacular scenery of the Lares Valley is a must. This remote and rarely visited region offers the trekker an insight into the real lives of the Andean farmer, dressed in their traditional brightly colored ponchos. You’ll have the opportunity to see thatched stone houses surrounded by herds of llamas and alpacas. Inside the houses you’ll see guinea pigs running loose.
This is one of the most interesting and important alternative treks to do, due to its wide range diversity in flora and different ecosystems, and its inca site laid on top of a mountain and just in front of the back of the Machupichu mountain, and this trail finally gets to Aguas Calientes located at the base of the historical and archeological site of Machupicchu, from where we take a early bus up there to see the sunshine and avoid crowds whilst doing Machupicchu with one of our English speaking tour and knowledgeable guides.
This a short program designed for people with limited time but who want to hike a section of the famous Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and enter this Inca Sanctuary through the famous Sun's Gate ("Intipunku" in Quechua language). Enjoy the natural beauties and the scenic views of this easy to moderate trip. A great option for a short visit to Machu Picchu !!!
